Sri Veeraraghava appears with the divine right hand placed upon the head of Salihothra Munivar. The divine left hand is in Jyana mudra in the form of teaching the four vedas to the four faced Brahmma.

According to the Sthala Purana, Lord Vishnu appeared in front of Salihothra Munivar and asked "uRaithaRkkuriya uL evvuL?" (which place is suitable for taking rest?). Thus, this place came to be known as "Thiru evvuL".

Taking a dip in the Hruththaapanaasini pond and worshiping Lord Veeraghava and the Vijayakoti Vimanam, will cure all kinds of ailments. For this reason the Lord of this temple is also known as "Vaidya Veeraraghavan".
