Dear All:
Srimad Azhagiyasingar's 83rd Thirunakshathra Mahotsavam will be held this year on Friday November 27th at Selaiyur, Chennai. We hope that all of you can attend the function in Selaiyur and get the blessings of His Holiness Srimad Azhagiyasingar on this very auspicious day.
As you know, Sri Matam will be incurring a lot of expenses for this function with a large number of invited veda/prabhanda goshti of around 300 and a few thousand sishyas in attendance, as in prior years. We hope to help offset some of these expenses from contributions from overseas sishyas. During the past few years, thanks to your generous contributions, we have been able to raise between $75,000 to $150,000 every year for this special event.
Please try and contribute generously to this special annual event. We know that many of you have already contributed to the Chathurmasya Sankalpam and other kainkaryams this year. However much we contribute is very small compared to what our Acharyan has done for us and continues to do for us.

This year is an unusual one as was the case in 1963 , where such confusion existed between choice of celebration of KrishNa chaturdai SnAnam in the month of purattAsi or Iyppasi .
Most of the Panchangams have recommended Friday ( Oct 16) late night for snAnam and
Oct 17 early morning for celebration of DeepAvaLi PaNDikai .
Based on the titi nirNayam (determination) for DeepAvaLi this year , Sri Ahobila Matam
sishyAs have been asked to celebrate snAnam on Nov 14 Saturday late night ( pinniravu) and the Pandikai on Nov 15 .
Please consult with your own AchArya Paramparai about the selection between the two dates . For those who are not strict on such matters might choose Oct 16/17 , which is
the national holiday , it seems in India . Most of the PanchAngams for USA suggest
Oct 16/17 celebration .
There are two traditions in celebrating DipAwaLi . One is for children and Social / holiday ( Fireworks , new vastrams etc) . The other is more of a Vaidheekam kind for alakshmi pareehAram by Naraka chaturdasi snAnam .
During this year , the first type of celebration is on Oct 16/17 and the second type is on
November 14/15 .

On His return from the Cauvery river to Dasavathara Sannidhi, the main religious ceremony of Him taking sanyAsa Ashrama sweekAram, including receiving kAshAyam and thridhandaM from our achAryan Srimad Azhagiyasingar, the 45th Jeer of Sri Ahobila Matam will take place. Dear All,
We spoke with His Holiness this morning. His health is stable, but, still He is weak. As of this morning Srimath Azhagiyasingar started going to the Sannidhi and He will be performing Samasrayanam and Bharanyasam starting tomorrow.
We also received information about the schedule for Asrama Sweekaram for the 46th Jeeyar of Sri Ahobila Matam. It has been scheduled to take place in Srirangam Dasavathara Sannidhi on Friday May 8, 2009 (Virodhi Varusham, Chithrai Maasam, Sri Nrisimha Jayanthi, Chithra Powrnami day) from 12:45 to 1:45 PM. Everyone is invited to attend this special function.
Thanks to everyone that offered their prayers to Sri Malolan for the early and full recovery of Srimath Azhagiyasingar. Let us all continue to pray for His full recovery.

Srimad Azhagiyasingar has nominated Agnihothram Ghanapati Kumbakonam Sri Rangarajachariar Swamy (56) as the 46th Jeer.
“I have been working for the past 30 years as the Rig veda teacher of the Sankara Mutt Padasala at Kumbakonam. Born at Thillaivilagam in Tiruvarur district (previously in Thanjavur district) I studied at Padasalas at Thirupathi, Nasarathpettai, etc. My grandfather Paruthichery Venkatachariyar was associated with Ahobila Mutt. I accept this with the blessings of Azhagiya Singar,” the new Jeer said.

Srimadh Azhagiya Singar was very pleased to know that many of you are reciting Sri VishNu Sahasra Naamam , Sri SudarsanAshtakam and Sri Mantra Raaja Padha stOtram.
Srimath Azhagiya Singar is particularly pleased to know about the outpouring of such affection for the full restoration of His Health and sends His VedOktha AaseervAdhams to you all. With the blessings of Sri Malolan and Sri Dolai Kannan, anugraham of our AchAryAs, dedication and bakthi of bAghavathAs from various parts of the country, the 2008 Sri Sannidhi AchArya Day and Sri Jayanthi function was celebrated in a grand manner on Sunday, Aug 31st, in Potomac, Maryland, USA.
The function was held in a hall adjacent to the Hare Krishna temple. Elaborate arrangements were made to accommodate more than a hundred people who witnessed the grandeur of Sri Dolai Kannan. Priest Sri Paravastu Raghavan swAmin from Sri Ranganatha Temple, Pomona, NY, USA performed the Nava kalasa Thirumanjanam in the morning and ArAdhanam in the evening in an authentic manner. An elaborate Thirumanjanam was performed as more than 25 goshti members recited vedam and upanishad which reverberated through the hall. After Thirumanjanam, as alankaram was being done, the goshti chanted the sweet verses of Desika Prabandhams. As the entire crowd waited in anticipation to get a glimpse of PerumAL, the thirai was opened and MAlOlan alankAram (with copious amounts of flowers) for Dolai Kannan was really a delectable darshan that stole the hearts of all the bhaghavathas assembled in the hall. That was followed by morning sAtrumurai and a sumptuous prasadam (prepared by local area AndAL gOshti) that was served in the lawn adjacent to the gOshALA of the HarE KrishnA temple. The left over food was served to the cows in the gOshALA. After lunch, the afternoon program started with kids talent show. It was an amazing show by kids dressed as Lord Krishna and Gopikas singing bhajans, dancing etc... As one of the local bhAghavathAs put it "There was KrishnAnubhavam all around".
As the event unfolded, a screen on the right side displayed brief information on what was being chanted. This was helpful for people to learn the significance of each part of the celebration. A book stall in a corner of the hall provided opportunities for bhaghavathas to grab rare sampradayic books.
The evening program started with chariot alankAram for Kannan. With Kannan seated on the chariot ready to roll, the goshti chanted Sri VishnuSahasranAmam, which was followed by Sri Sannidhi evening NithyAnusandhAnam. The highlight of the evening program was rathOthsavam. One could clearly witness the radiant smile beaming from Lord Krishna's face Who was proudly showing off His new set of wheels. More than hundred Hare Krishna devotees sang kirtans and took turns to pull the chariot.
It was indeed a pleasure to be in the company of a sizeable number of local and out-of-town bhAghavathAs. There were some very dedicated bAghavathAs who came all the way from Texas, Indiana and even Seattle. Thanks to all the dedicated volunteers and bAghavathAs who were instrumental in making this event a memorable one. We hope more people will plan on taking part in future celebrations.
