Brief Background Information

More than six hundred and ten years ago Sri Lakshminrisimha appeared in the dream of a great mahatma and instructed him to come to Ahobilam in the present day Andhra Pradhesh. His name was Srinivasacharya. He reported this dream to his Acharya who instructed him to obey the command of Sriman Narayana. He then proceeded to Ahobilam from Kanchipuram, a distance of about 400 KM.

Upon reaching Ahobilam Sri Lakshminrisimha appeared before him and initiated the young Srinivasacharya into Sanyasam. This great Yati came to be knwon as Srimad Athivan Satakopa Jeeyar. He was the founder of Srimad Ahobila Matam. Then, Sri Malola Nrisimha jumped into the hands of the Jeeyar and asked to be taken to the villages all across India so that the common people can pray, worship, and celebrate the glory of Sri Malolan. From that time onwards till this very day, a row of 46 Sanyasis of Srimad Ahobila Matam have been criss crossing the land of Bharath taking Malolan to the villages and to the houses of countless devotees.

As Malolan did more than 610 years ago, perhaps Sri Krishna decided to criss cross the land of U.S. and visit with the devotees here. In the month of Vikrama Panguni (March 2001) Sri Krishna made an avathara at Sri Ahobilam and was worshiped by Srimad Azhagiya Singar at Ahobilam and Thiruppathi.

On April 6th, Navaneetha Krishna traveled 18000 k.m. to the shores of U.S.A. The journey of 400 KM by Srimad Athivan Satakopan more than 610 years ago from Kanchipuram to Ahobilam was much more arduous and momentous, it paved the way for the establishment of the great Sri Vaishnava Matam. The journey by Navaneetha Krishnan was made in the comfort of an airplane, but by the divine Sankalpam of Sriman Narayana it is a significant event in the lives of all Krishna bhakthas in the U.S. Since the arrival in the U.S. Sri Navaneetha Krishna has been on Sancharam visiting the houses of devotees. The Lord is waiting to visit your house. Please click here to arrange for a dolothsavam in your house.

More about Thirumanjanam

Thirumanjanam (abhishekam, divine bath) is performed usually in the morning from 8 am till 12:00 noon.

When Krishna arrives at your home be prepared to welcome Him into your home as a honored guest. Play some auspecious music such a Nadaswaram. Have "manjaneer Arathi" (turmeric mixed water) ready with at least two ladies. Optionally, you can have "poorna kumbam" (a silver sombu filled with water with a cocunut as the lid).

The ghosti members accompanying perumal will recite Suprabhatham, Divya Prabhandam and then Vedham (Taittriyopanishad & Pancha Sooktham) during the actual bathing procedure. One of the uniqueness of Sri Ahobila Matam is the preparation of Nava (Nine) Kalasa Dhravyam (materials) to bathe the lord including sandal, turmeric, coconut, fruits etc. The purification process is very rigorus and elaborate and is followed in an authentic way.

After the bath, Krishna is adorned in new clothes and jewels (called Saathupadi) and takes his place in a Swing. At this point, prasadam (food) is offered to Perumal and then distributed to the guests. The conclusion of the program is called Saatrumurai (where select prabhandam and vedham is recited). The function ends at around 12:30 pm.

The recitation list (Nityanusandhana Kramam) during Thirumanjanam can be downloaded from here.
